Is The New Ford Bronco Raptor Worth It?

New Specs and Features of the Ford Bronco Raptor

After checking out the new 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor earlier this year and finding out that the base price is $70,000, we had a couple questions that we wanted to take a dive into. First, what exactly are you getting for that price, and also, is it even worth it to throw down that much money? We want to help you answer both of those questions today by leading you through all the newest features, specs, and other cool stuff that the Bronco Raptor brings to the table. Let's dive right in!

New Body Styling and Tire Specs on the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

Approaching the Bronco Raptor, not a whole lot stood out to us, but we could tell that it was noticeably wider than other generations, with some obvious upgrades to boot. The first is the overarching fender flares that cover up some new factory-installed 37-inch tires, and that's awesome to see a 37-inch BFGoodrich KO2 stuffed on a factory Bronco.

This helps give it almost five more inches of ground clearance for a total of 13.1 inches, and that makes it clear that Ford was definitely paying attention to the needs of off-road enthusiasts with the new Bronco Raptor model. But while that's good in a pinch, we're still hoping that Ford has a better solution to covering the whole body without needing to slap some flares on it - after all, the new Bronco Raptor is almost 10 inches wider overall than base trims.

2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Suspension Specs and Features

Beyond the 37-inch BFGs on the 2022 Bronco Raptor, you'll see Fox internal bypass coilover shocks controlling them, complete with live action instant and automatic control of dampening and rebound. That allows the Bronco Raptor up to 13 inches of suspension travel up front, and 14 inches of travel in the rear, more than enough to give you some extra cushioning upon landing when putting some air in between the tires and the ground.

The new Bronco Raptor also gets upgraded and stronger front axle shafts, control arms, steering links, a stronger, beefier rear axle, and a 3.06:1 transfer case over the 2.72:1 ratio on the other Broncos.

New Engine and Power Rating on the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

Sending all of its (unofficial) 400 horsepower to the Bronco Raptor's drivetrain is not the five-liter V8 that most of us were hoping for. Instead, it's a turbo'd three-liter V6, the same one that's in the Lincoln Navigator. But that's understandable, because the name of the game here is to give it the best power-to-weight ratio possible. It also breathes out through a true dual exhaust, and it'll definitely be interesting to hear what it sounds like with a dual exhaust off of a V6.

2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Towing Capacity and Drivetrain Upgrades

Along with the extra horsepower and additional strength added to the frame - and internal roll cage to add torsional rigidity - is an additional thousand pounds of towing capacity, along with a new tow/haul mode to help keep the engine in peak pulling range while also towing up to 4,500 pounds.

Also optimizing the capabilities of the new Bronco Raptor is seven different G.O.A.T. modes; these include Tow/Haul, Rock Crawling, Slippery, Generic, Sport, Normal, and Baja, the latter of which is exclusive to the Bronco Raptor.

New Interior Features and Technology Upgrades of the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

To keep your body more planted in your seat while Baja-ing through the Baja desert in Baja mode, the Bronco Raptor offers performance-oriented seats with about 20% more side-bolstering capabilities. The steering wheel is also thicker to help with reducing that white knuckling effect, complete with plenty of Raptor accents and stitching throughout the interior.

The new Bronco Raptor also receives a new digital gauge cluster and center 12-inch digital command center for the radio - you'll also find the HVAC switches and a few other convenience features. On top of the dash, centered above the radio, are gonna be your Hero switches, like what's found on the other Bronco packages - these control your hydraulic sway-bar disconnect, which can be activated at higher speeds than other trim levels. These switches can also activate the front locker, rear locker, trail turn assist, traction control, and hazards - so, obviously there are a lot of performance upgrades to keep an eye out for here.

How Much Does The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Cost?

All the above info sounds great, but the next thing to figure out is whether it's all really worth it when compared to the Bronco's other trim levels - after all, the Bronco Raptor costs $70,000 at its base price. Usually, when a manufacturer or dealership says "base price," that doesn't include destination fees for shipping the vehicle to the dealership, and it also doesn't include taxes or registration fees. Without any additional factory upgrades done to that, that puts the final total on the new Bronco Raptor at around $75,000.

To us, that's not really worth it, but at the same time, if you've figured out the right cashflow for your budget and can spring for a brand-new, off-road-optimized Ford model, then jump in, go have fun, and take it pretty much wherever you want. It's not as big as the F-150 Raptor, for those of us who don't wanna run around in a near trophy-sized pickup truck. Plus, it'll still be a ton of fun all the same.
