January 30, 2024

What Are The Best Off-Road Tires You Can Get For Under $1500?

According to your annoying Facebook friends that you haven't talked to since 2010, a new year means a new you. But for the rest of us, the shifting of the calendar brings with it a promise of new trails and backroads to conquer - so what if you could do that for a price that wouldn't break the bank?

That's what we're taking you through today - we've compiled our list of the best five off-road tires you can buy for under $1500 to get ready for 2024. You've probably heard of most of the tires on our list, but there are a few you might be surprised at. Trust us, though - they're all phenomenal options for Jeeps, Toyotas, and everything in between.

Now, keep in mind that these tires might not be for everyone, and you might experience different results from your tires depending on what you drive and where you live. But for the most part, all of these models will be able to give you great performance and style in the same package, so let's jump right in.

Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek tires on Toyota 4Runner

Top Features and Pricing of the Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek

First on our list is the Cooper Rugged Trek, starting at $1050 for a set of 4. If you look closely at this tire, you'll see that it has variable pitch patterns and sound barriers on the shoulder lugs, which means that Cooper designed these tires to be quieter than most on the highway. The verdict is still out as to whether or not Cooper actually accomplished that, but regardless, how do they hold up off the road?

Well, with an aggressive, angled tread design, the Rugged Trek is quite the capable tire for off-roading, which can scoop and throw mud and gravel pretty well. You'll also get some good snow performance, which is a must in places like Wisconsin, where winter could theoretically happen nine months out of the year.

Overall, Cooper missed the mark a little bit on the Rugged Trek when it comes to road noise and full off-road capability, but it's still a great entry-level tire option for just about anyone.

Ironman All Country MT Tires

Top Features and Pricing of the Ironman All Country MT

Up next is the Ironman All-Country M/T, which clocks in at $1,150, just a hundred bucks more than the Rugged Trek. For the higher price tag you'd expect this tire to be better than Cooper's option, and for the most part, it is.

The All-Country MT is a solid choice for off-roading - it's big, meaty, and has a super aggressive tread pattern that will get you through some really tough situations. Ironman has pulled out all the stops to help you tackle obstacles like mud, snow, creeks, boulders, and others, but that's where the positives end, unfortunately.

As with any other big and beefy off-road tire, the All Country MT has its drawbacks on the pavement. Many of you mentioned road noise as the biggest complaint you had, and we've seen quite a few people say that these tires aren't the most comfortable either. But then again, the All Country MT doesn't claim to be anything other than what it is - it's a big, bold mud tire, and that's good enough if you need it to be.

Top Features and Pricing of the Kenda Klever R/T

Right in the middle of our list is the Kenda Klever R/T, which starts at $1,240 for a set of four on our site. That's another hundred dollar jump, but many of you say that it's worth it, and let's be honest here - the Klever has been one of the most iconic tires in the off-road community for some time now.

The Klever has a well-engineered tread design that provides great off-road capability, whether that means mudding, snow wheeling, or even driving over rough rocks and gravel. The best news, though, is that this tread design also means that you don't have to sacrifice on-road comfort with these tires.

In fairness, there is some road noise to be expected with the Klever, but honestly, it's not bad at all. You might also feel them being a little stiffer than some other tire options, but you won't be giving up a whole lot of comfort for on or off-road adventures. So why aren't they number one? Well, it's only because they're not Three Peak Mountain Snowflake Rated - that's it.

Nitto Recon Grappler A/T tires

Top Features and Pricing of the Nitto Recon Grappler A/T

We've entered the part of the show where both tires in our top two are absolutely incredible. And they both deserve the top spot, but just falling short of the crown is the Nitto Recon Grappler A/T, coming in at $1270.

There's so much to talk about this tire, but in the interest of being brief we'll just say that the off-road capability of the Recon Grappler is phenomenal. It has a well-designed tread pattern to not only scoop and throw mud, gravel and snow, but also does very well when it comes to comfort and noise on the road. We even had trouble finding a negative review on our site for this tire, which means it must be perfect, right?

Well, no - the Recon Grappler A/T still comes in at around $300 more than the Rugged Trek, and for some, that price difference could be the decision point between getting a set and not. With that said, Nitto's best off-road tire is more than enough for most off-roaders, and if you've got the cash for one, go ahead and grab a set for yourself.

That leads us to our number one spot, which does everything the Recon Grappler does, but at a cheaper cost. Drumroll, please …

Toyota Tundra with Falken Rubitrek tires

Top Features and Pricing of the Falken Rubitrek

Now, you've probably heard of the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, which also would've been a great choice for the number one spot. But Falken made the Rubitrek as well, which we're making number one in its place because it's basically the Wildpeak but cheaper. And we mean that literally - it's just the Wildpeak if you made it cheaper.

At a price point of $1,130 for a set of four, the Rubitrek is already one of the best-priced tires we've ever seen for its capability. You'd be forgiven for looking at this model, then comparing it to the Wildpeak, and thinking that because it's more expensive, the Wildpeak must be better.

But plenty of drivers have stress tested both these tires and found no discernible difference in quality. You might lose a little less traction in loose gravel and have a weaker towing ability, but that's honestly it. For that price and function, you can't beat the results that Falken's other tire can give you.
