2002-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Wheel, Tire & Suspension Fitment Guide
The third generation of the Dodge Ram 1500 presented a significant upgrade for the pickup line in a few areas. Of the first three generations, it set a new high in the number of trucks sold in a year with almost 450,000 in 2002-03. While its appearance didn’t change much between the second and third generation, it did receive a decent number of changes under both the hood and body. An upgraded engine, a new independent suspension system and a larger cab improved on an already solid truck.
The third generation Dodge Ram 1500 (2002-2008) is a great choice as your next off-roader custom build, especially if you know where to start. But if you don’t, that’s ok too, because this fitment guide can help get you started on what equipment would work best on a third generation Dodge Ram 1500. Our gallery examples can help show you the perfect combination of wheels, tires and suspension to turn your Dodge Ram 1500 into a trail dominating machine.
Stock Wheel & Tire Fitment On The Third Generation (2002-2008) Dodge Ram 1500
The third model of the Dodge Ram 1500 came available in stock tire sizes of 245/70 as well as 265/70. In regard to its wheel sizes, 17x7 and 17x8 were the default choices. The third generation Dodge Ram 1500 used a bolt pattern of 5x5.5 so you’ll want to make sure that any wheel you want to use on your rig fits that same pattern, otherwise you’ll need to make sure you use an adapter to get it to fit correctly.
When you’re looking through our gallery for Dodge Ram 1500s, you’ll notice a similar theme. For top off-roading performance, bigger tires with smaller wheels. Combining tires between 33-36” with wheels around 17 or 18 inches in diameter is a good combination to give your rig the best combination of style and performance out on the trails. When it comes to suspensions, we recommend a suspension between 4 and 5 inches, but when lifting your truck that much, it’s important to keep suspension geometry in mind. If your suspension isn’t in proper balance, you can cause massive damage to your rig.
