2009-2018 Ram 1500 Wheel, Tire & Suspension Fitment Guide

2009 proved to be a historic year for the Dodge Ram 1500 because it was also its last. Claiming the name “Dodge Ram” since it’s inception in 1981, the model was rebranded the Ram 1500 in 2010 when Ram and Dodge became separate brands while under the parent company of the Chrysler Group. Ram became the truck brand for the company, while Dodge pivoted to focus more on the production of SUVs, minivans, and sedans instead. The change in name was hardly the only for the pickup in this generation, however, as Ram introduced upgrades to the 1500’s engine, transmission, and focused on increasing ride comfort with numerous interior upgrades to the truck’s cabin and technology.

Are you looking to turn a fourth generation (produced between 2009-2018) Ram 1500 pickup into your next custom build but aren’t sure what wheels, tires and suspension give you the best options to turn your pickup into a powerful and capable off-roader? This fitment guide we’ve put together will give you a good idea of where to start as well as show some examples from our extensive gallery to help provide some inspiration for your own!

Stock Wheel & Tire Fitment On The Fourth Generation (2009-2018) Ram 1500

The stock options available for the fourth generation of the Ram 1500 off the factory line for tire sizing came in a few varieties, 265/70, 275/70 and 275/60 were the primary options to choose from. When it came to wheel sizes, the Ram 1500 defaulted to 17x7 or a 17x8, but it also had a 20x8 option in case you wanted a bigger stock wheel option for your truck. This Ram features a Bolt Pattern of 5x5.5 so you’ll want to make sure that any wheel you want to use on your rig fits that same pattern, otherwise you’ll need to make sure you use an adapter to get it to fit correctly.

If you’re reading this fitment guide, then you want to customize your Ram 1500 for off-roading. And if that’s the case, then for choosing wheels and tires, you’ll want bigger tires and smaller wheels to maximize your rigs off-roading performance capability. A lot of the custom builds featured in our gallery sport tires between 33 and 35” with wheels between 17 and 18 inches in diameter. Combine that with a suspension somewhere around 4 to 5 inches and your rig will be ready to handle the most difficult terrain out there. Something important to note here is the suspension geometry of your build. If your suspension isn’t in proper balance, you can cause massive damage to your rig, so make sure everything lines up well.
