Rubicon Trail

Off-Roadjeep

You may know the ever-famous Jeep Rubicon but didn't know how that name came to be. Look no further, the Rubicon Trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California is the reason that the iconic Jeep Rubicon has its name. This trail is right between Lake Tahoe and Loon Lake giving it some absolutely stunning scenery. This trail has some really challenging rock crawling on it, with over 22 miles of technical rock crawling. Be sure that your rig is equipped for this because this trail will test its center of gravity, traction, ground clearance, armor, and technical driveability. Along with challenging rock crawling there are a lot of uphill ascents and downhill descents as well to give you even more excitement. You are definitely going to want to prepare for this trail, to learn more about what you will need and how to prepare, check out our last blog: The Ultimate Off-Roading Guide here

The next destination you need to check out is Moab, UT. Moab is home to the popular Easter Jeep Safari that is hosted by the Red Rock Four-Wheelers and Off-Road Club. There are many trails within Moab itself and the surrounding area including: Slick Rock Loop, Hells Revenge, Pritchett Canyon, Metal Masher, Poison Spider, and more. These trails go from beginner level all the way up to incredibly advanced, so please do your research before you head out. Many people have tried and failed on some of these trails, harming themselves and their rigs. Ouray, CO

Up next is Ouray, Colorado. Five of the local trails in Ouray have received the Jeeps Badge of Honor Status. Trails like the Alpine Loop and Black Bear pass are well-known for their mountainous and scenic views. These trails have a rich history and have been maintained incredibly well over the years so please be respectful as you drive through them. The Alpine Loop is a seventy-five-mile trail that carves through the San Juan mountains. Black Bear Pass tests even the most advanced off-roaders, it will take you across off-camber rock gardens on the edge of a thousand-foot drop. Be sure to be careful. With its beautiful mountain views, old historical mining towns, and high altitude passes are sure to visit Ouray, CO at least once in your life.

Covering over seven thousand acres and a hundred and fifty miles of various trails ranging in difficulty from one to ten, make sure to check out Black Mountain Off-Road Adventure Area. In the historical coal mining capital of the United States, Harlan County, Kentucky. This park is created from strip mining roads and logging roads. These trails offer a variety of different terrain, from mud to rocks, to steep hills, and water crossings, etc. These will require a very capable rig, meaning all the works ie. roll cage, suspension, 35-inch tires, beadlocks, underbody armor, a winch, and solid recovery points. Johnson Valley, CA

The final destination on our list may be the most advanced and most dangerous. Johnson Valley is filled with boulders, jagged rocks, huge drop off, and desert. Known to tear apart even the most built rigs. Once a year this is the destination for the largest and most grueling off-road race in the world. I am talking about the iconic King of Hammers race that takes place in February for a week. This is a dry desert outside of Yucca Valley in Johnson Valley California. King of Hammers is not only an amazing off-roading event, it is a great place to bring together like-minded individuals. If you haven't been to this event before, you definitely need to go.
