2000-2005 Ford Excursion Wheel & Tire Fitment Guide

In the first half of the 2000s, Ford doubled down on its larger SUVs in an attempt to take over the full-size market as we know it, and its main driving force was the infamous Ford Excursion. Released as Ford's answer to the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon, the Excursion was big, strong, and primed for heavy-duty work - still today, it remains the largest SUV to ever be produced in America.

This makes the Excursion a sneaky favorite of many off-road enthusiasts looking for a fully-capable, durable, and overlanding-ready rig. Today, we want to show you what wheel and tire sizes best fit the Excursion if you're looking to get one for your off-road adventures - we'll take you through the best specs of the Excursion and its best fits for all suspension sizes, so let's dive right in!

Ford Excursion Engine Options and Maximum Towing Capacity

For starters, the Excursion offered four engine options throughout its generation, and they're listed below with power ratings included.

  • 5.4-liter Triton V8 (255 horsepower, 350 pound-feet of torque)
  • 6.8-liter Triton V10 (310 horsepower, 425 pound-feet of torque)
  • 7.3-liter Powerstroke V8 Turbo Diesel (250 horsepower, 525 pound-feet of torque)
  • 6.0-liter Powerstroke V8 Turbo Diesel (325 horsepower, 560 pound-feet of torque)

At its strongest (this being the Turbo Diesel option), the Excursion was capable of towing up to 11,000 pounds, and greater with additional modifications added. Payload capacity was estimated at a touch over 2,000 pounds as well, making this one of the strongest models ever produced.

Ford Excursion Bolt Pattern & Recommended Fitment Range

Onto the wheel specs, now - with all that power being thrown down, it makes sense that the Excursion also demands some pretty large wheels and tires to be able to handle it. The Excursion was compatible with an 8x170mm bolt pattern throughout its entire existence, and its wheel and tire recommendation is equally large.

The recommended fitment range for the Ford Excursion ensures optimal performance and aesthetics. Common fitment ranges at smaller suspension sizes include 18"-20" wheels with offsets between +10mm and +18mm, paired with 33"-35" tires. This setup enhances handling, safety, and appearance, providing a balanced and rugged look.

However, if you're looking for a lifted Ford Excursion, you can go a whole lot bigger - we're talking up to 37-inch tires without needing to trim anything off its body. Most Excursions we've seen rocking lift kits will have 20x10 wheels and 37s wrapping them at a minimum, especially with six-inch lifts and higher.
